Diogo Leite joins Lazio as Romagnoli replacement
Diogo Leite, 27, will undergo medicals on 5 September 2026 and be unveiled in Rome as Lazio's new defender.
On 05.09.2026 Lazio moved to bolster its defence by signing Diogo Leite. The 27-year-old centre-back, a Porto academy product and most recently a Union Berlin player, is due to undergo medical examinations today and will be officially presented in Rome.
Immediate replacement for Alessio Romagnoli
Leite arrives as a direct replacement for veteran Alessio Romagnoli, who has left for the Middle East and signed for Al Sadd. The move addresses Lazio's need to fill the gap left in central defence following Romagnoli's departure.
During the past four seasons Leite made more than 130 appearances across competitions, experience the club expects will help stabilise the back line. He brings both top‑flight minutes and familiarity with European competition.
The medicals are scheduled for today, after which the club plans an official unveiling in Rome. Lazio supporters will be watching to see how quickly Leite adapts to his new teammates and the club's tactical setup.
