Cold front: rain, mountain snow and strong winds expected through October 16

A cold air mass arriving from the north will keep North Macedonia under its influence through the end of this week, bringing colder mornings, strong winds and localized precipitation, meteorologist Slavcho Poposki said.

Weather through Friday (October 16)

Until Friday (October 16) conditions will be changeable with sunny intervals and periods of stronger north to north‑west winds that locally may exceed 60 km/h. Poposki said the wind will be the most pronounced factor in the next days.

“On Friday (October 16) we will again have local rain showers with light to moderate, locally and with moderate intensity, while in the mountains above 1500 meters there will be occasional snow showers,” Poposki said.

The weekend (Saturday and Sunday, October 17–18) should bring more settled weather: sunshine with only small to moderate localized cloudiness and a reduction in wind speed.

Mornings will be markedly colder: temperatures at many locations will fall to around or below 5 °C, and at higher settlements and in the mountains they can drop to around, and in places several degrees below, zero. Daytime maxima will also remain relatively low, generally up to about or below 15 °C, while the Skopje basin and some central and southeastern areas can occasionally climb near 20 °C.

“The real autumn in North Macedonia is here, which means we face a significantly colder period and that warm clothing will definitely be needed, as well as heating in homes,” Poposki added.
