Cold snap in North Macedonia: temperatures dip below zero; frost and hoar frost expected
Meteorologist Slavcho Poposki says clear but significantly colder weather will bring frost and strong north/northwest winds across the country.

Published: 27 October 2026 — A cold air mass arriving from the north brought clear but markedly colder conditions to North Macedonia overnight and into the morning, meteorologist Slavcho Poposki said.
Strong north and northwest winds; gusts over 50 km/h in parts of the country
Poposki warned that north and northwest winds will persist and become periodically strong, with gusts locally exceeding 50 km/h, especially across the Povardarie region.
He added: "There will continue to be a north and northwest wind which will be intermittently stronger in intensity and especially in Povardarie it will periodically exceed a speed of 50 km/h.
Temperatures overnight and tomorrow morning are expected to fall into a range between -2 and 8 degrees Celsius, while the Berovo area and other higher settlements, as well as mountain zones, may see even lower values.
In Skopje and its surroundings, temperatures during the cited period will drop to around 4 degrees, and at times there will be strong wind from the north and northwest that locally and intermittently will exceed 50 km/h, Poposki said.
Residents should expect frosty mornings in low-lying and elevated areas; clear skies will make nights colder and increase the likelihood of frost and hoar frost in exposed locations.
