Lamine Yamal posts five emojis after Atletico's 2–1 win over Real Madrid
The 19-year-old Barcelona forward’s brief Instagram reaction quickly became a social-media flashpoint.
Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid 2-1 in the Madrid derby, and a short reaction from Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal quickly became one of the match’s talking points.
Social media flare-up
After the game, Yamal left a comment made up of five explosive emojis under an Instagram post by teammate Marc Pubill that showed scenes from the derby. The single-line response drew swift attention from fans and gathered more than a thousand likes.
The brief post followed a recent on-record remark Yamal made to Jorge Valdano in which he admitted his feelings about Real. "I watch Real Madrid matches and enjoy watching their defeats," said the 19-year-old Barcelona forward.
The emoji comment only added fuel to an already heated rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid. Real have publicly questioned the refereeing at the Wanda Metropolitano and argued they were seriously wronged during the match.
On the league table Real sit fourth with 15 points, six points behind leaders Barcelona. Unlike Real — who have already lost to Betis and Atletico this season — Barcelona, led by Rafinha and the young talent Yamal, currently look unstoppable on their title run.
