Lando Norris extends with McLaren through 2030

On 29 August 2026 Lando Norris and McLaren announced a multi-year extension that will keep the British driver with the team at least until 2030. The new deal continues a relationship that began in 2017, when Norris joined McLaren's junior programme.

Since stepping up to a full-time seat in Formula 1 in 2019, Norris has emerged as one of the leading figures of his generation. Over his time with McLaren he has recorded 13 wins, 18 pole positions and 48 podium finishes.

Last season Norris reached the peak of his career by winning his first world championship in a dramatic title fight, while McLaren also secured the constructors' crown, underscoring the team’s return to the front of the grid.

What the extension means

The contract gives McLaren long-term certainty for a key part of its driver line-up and allows Norris to remain at a team he came through as a junior. The length of the deal — running to at least 2030 — signals both parties’ intention to build on recent success rather than pursue an immediate reshuffle.

Neither side disclosed financial terms, but the extension removes a major question mark over McLaren’s future driving roster and gives Norris a stable platform to defend his title and pursue further victories with the team that has supported him since 2017.
