Laporta: Messi could hold farewell at new Spotify Camp Nou before 105,000 fans

Skopje — Barcelona president Joan Laporta told club delegates that the club has discussed arranging a public farewell for Lionel Messi once the rebuilt Spotify Camp Nou is finished.

Laporta made the announcement at the club's General Assembly of delegates on September 20, 2026.

Plan for a full stadium goodbye

According to Laporta, the intention is to stage a special ceremony after construction work on the new stadium is completed and to have the venue filled to its full capacity of almost 105,000 spectators so Messi can properly say goodbye to the supporters.

Laporta said the club has already discussed the idea directly with Messi and underlined that the final choice rests with the player.

"We told Messi that we would like to organise a farewell for him once the stadium is finished, in front of almost 105,000 supporters," Laporta said. He added that the ultimate decision belongs to the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner.
