Lavrov: Russia ready to negotiate on the Ukrainian question
The Russian foreign minister said talks with the US were useful and accused the EU of complicating efforts to find a long-term solution.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow is prepared to enter negotiations aimed at resolving the Ukrainian issue and described talks with the United States on the matter as useful.
Claims about U.S. contacts and the European Union
Lavrov asserted that, in his view, the Trump administration from the outset demonstrated both the willingness and the capacity to recognise the underlying causes of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
He added that the European Union is making negotiations more difficult and hindering the search for a reliable long-term settlement.
The Foreign Minister’s remarks came shortly after President Vladimir Putin met at the Kremlin on Saturday with special envoys of the U.S. president, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Lavrov framed the current stance as an opening for diplomacy, while reiterating Moscow’s criticism of European approaches to the conflict and underlining his view that certain U.S. contacts have been constructive.
