Musiala ruled out of German Supercup as doctors err on side of caution

Bayern Munich will leave Jamal Musiala out of their squad for the German Supercup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, 22 August 2026, after the 23-year-old midfielder collapsed twice within a matter of days.

Musiala suffered the two incidents during Bayern's most recent matches — against Leipzig and Heidenheim — receiving immediate medical attention on both occasions and being substituted straight away.

Medical diagnosis and prognosis

Club doctors say Musiala has been diagnosed with "a transient stroke caused by a neurological dysfunction." Medical staff stressed the condition should not prevent the player from continuing his career, but they opted for a cautious approach ahead of the season-opening cup tie.

Manager Vincent Kompany is due to announce the official squad today (21 August 2026), but the club has already confirmed that Musiala will not be included for the Supercup meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

The two sides will compete for the first trophy of the 2026–27 campaign when they meet on Saturday.

Bayern have prioritised the player's health and recovery, and the club says further evaluations and a tailored return-to-play plan will follow as Musiala undergoes continued monitoring.
