Levica supports Strumica farmers demanding higher purchase prices

Levica expressed full support for farmers from the Strumica region who are protesting and demanding higher purchase prices for the pepper known as "kurtovska kapija".

The party says that farmers are currently being offered a price of 25 denars per kilogram, which, according to them, does not cover production costs. Levica emphasizes that producers invest months of labor and money and bear the production risk themselves.

Farmers' demands

Strumica farmers are demanding a purchase price of 50 denars per kilogram for first class, 40 denars for mixed first and second class and 20 denars for second class. Among their demands are fixed purchase prices for the entire season, timely payment for delivered yield and payment of outstanding subsidies.

Levica said that in conditions of increased production costs, the state should take measures to protect farmers and create conditions for continuing production. The party warned that a reduction in domestic production could lead to abandonment of agricultural land, emigration of young people and an increase in food imports.

Levica said: "Behind every field stands a family that lives from the land, and behind agriculture stand whole local economies" and called on the Minister of Agriculture Serafimovski to offer a concrete solution, instead of just talks and promises.

The party reiterated its pledge: "Levica strives for domestic production to be a state priority, and for agricultural labor to be protected and properly valued" and stated that it remains in support of Strumica and domestic producers.
