Levica поддржува протести на струмичките земјоделци за повисоки откупни цени

Levica announced full support for farmers from the Strumica region who have taken to the streets demanding higher purchase prices for the pepper variety known as "kurtovska kapija".

According to the party, growers are currently being offered 25 denars per kilogram — a level they say does not cover production costs. Levica noted that producers invest months of work and money and carry the production risk themselves.

Farmers' demands

Strumica farmers are asking for an official purchase price of 50 denars per kilogram for first-class peppers, 40 denars for mixed first- and second-class, and 20 denars for second-class. They also demand fixed buying prices for the entire season, timely payment for delivered produce and settlement of overdue subsidies.

Levica argues that, faced with rising production costs, the state must adopt measures to protect farmers and create conditions that will allow production to continue. The party warned that reduced domestic production could lead to abandonment of agricultural land, youth emigration and greater food imports.

Commenting on the protests, Levica said: "Behind every field stands a family that lives off the land, and whole local economies stand behind agriculture." The party urged Minister of Agriculture Serafimovski to offer concrete solutions rather than only talks and promises.

In closing, Levica reiterated its position: "Levica fights for domestic production to become a state priority, and for agricultural labour to be protected and properly valued." The party said it will remain in solidarity with Strumica producers and other domestic growers.
