Lidija Spasovska: from a 15‑year‑old debut to a constant presence at weddings

Lidija Spasovska remains an active figure on the North Macedonian music scene, best known today for frequent appearances at weddings, birthdays and private celebrations across the country.

Her musical career began in childhood alongside family: she performed with her brother Vesko and later shared the stage with the celebrated Romani accordionist Ferus Mustafov.

Early success

She recorded her first album at age 15, a set of eight songs that included the track "Pomisli na mene," which became her signature number; the music and arrangement were done by Goran Georgievski and the lyrics written by Bobi Petkovski. Very quickly after the release she rose to wider fame and demand.

"I come from a musical family. My beginnings are from elementary school, I sang in the choir, and then I started performing with my brother Vesko. My first album I recorded at 15 years old with 8 songs, of which 'Pomisli na mene' is my calling card, for which the music and arrangement are by Goran Georgievski, and the lyrics by Bobi Petkovski. Very shortly after the album came out I became a well-known and sought-after singer. I started singing in 'Velchevo meanche' in Skopje together with Ferus Mustafov and continued until today collaborating with all my colleagues," Lidija said in one interview.

After a period away from the spotlight to raise her family, she returned to steady performing. She has been married to her husband Jugoslav for more than two decades; their children are Kristian and Marija.

Lidija frequently travels for engagements abroad — including Australia, the United States and many European countries — which complicates domestic obligations but she credits careful organisation and a supportive partner for making it work. Her long career and characteristic blonde hair have kept her a recognisable presence on the circuit.
