Europa League: Tabaković downs Levski; OFI Crete beat Hoffenheim
Tabaković’s deflected 39th-minute strike gave Salzburg a 1-0 win over Levski, while OFI Crete defeated Hoffenheim 2-0 in their Europa League openers.
Levski began their Europa League group campaign with a narrow home defeat as Salzburg edged the Bulgarian side 1-0 on 17 September 2026. The only goal arrived just before half-time, and Levski — missing Nikola Serafimov through injury — were unable to find an equaliser in the second half.
Tabaković strike settles tight contest
Salzburg took control of the game in the opening half and were rewarded in the 39th minute when Tabaković turned the ball into the net after a deflection in the penalty area. The goal proved decisive at Stadion Georgi Asparuhov, where Levski threatened in the second half but failed to convert several chances.
The Bulgarian side pressed for an equaliser after the break, creating a handful of opportunities, but Salzburg defended resolutely and held on for the victory that gives them three points from the opening match of the group stage.
In the other fixture on the evening, OFI Crete started their Europa League campaign with a 2-0 win over Hoffenheim. The Greek club recorded a confident victory to join Salzburg among the early group leaders.
The results leave Levski searching for a quick response in upcoming fixtures as the group phase gets underway following the September international break.
