Emotional Skopje meeting: Leonid Indov gives Lila Filipovska a symbolic gift

Television presenter Lila Filipovska recently met with Leonid Indov in Skopje in a meeting marked by gratitude and emotion, during which Leonid presented her with a small symbolic gift as a token of thanks for the public support he received during his recovery.

Photos from their encounter appeared on social media, showing the two in warm conversation and spending time together in the capital.

Particularly touching was the present Leonid prepared: a white statuette of two hands holding a heart, bearing a dedication. Leonid wrote, "Leo thanks you from the heart for your humanity and compassion."

From the darkest hour to new projects

Leonid’s mother, Marija Indova, also publicly expressed gratitude to Filipovska. In her message she wrote: "Lila Filipovska is one of the missions of humanity, selflessness and sacrifice. A witness through everything we went through, so quietly, nobly and modestly. Today from Leon with heart to Lila Filipovska."

The story of Leonid Indov united much of North Macedonia in the summer of 2023, when the then-18-year-old suffered a serious accident while diving in Greece and sustained severe injuries to his neck and lungs. The costs of prolonged treatment in Thessaloniki, Skopje and Austria prompted widespread fundraising across the country.

Alongside thousands of private donors, many public figures rallied to help — among them Lila Filipovska, Mia Kostova and the band DNK — contributing to the funds Leonid needed for rehabilitation.

Three years after the accident Leonid, now 21, has become an example of persistence. He moves independently by using a specialized motorized electric wheelchair and is a successful student of software engineering at FINKI (Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering). He continues to develop digital projects, took first place with his team at the NASA Space Apps Challenge in North Macedonia and visited NASA’s space center in Florida. Recently he launched the platform iznajmuvaj.mk to help people share and rent equipment. Leonid’s journey is a reminder of how collective solidarity can produce real change, and his smile and energy continue to inspire those around him.
