Lina Gjorcheska retires from second-round match at W75 Leipzig
Gjorcheska retired in the second round in Leipzig with Alena Kovackova leading 1-0 in sets and 2-1 in the second set.
06.08.2026 — Macedonian tennis player Lina Gjorcheska ended her run at the W75 tournament in Leipzig after retiring during her second-round match against Czech player Alena Kovackova.
Gjorcheska lost the opening set 6-1 after Kovackova raced to a 5-0 lead. Early in the second set Gjorcheska won the first game — after 14 points played — but Kovackova then took the next two games and the Macedonian stopped the match with the Czech leading 1-0 in sets and 2-1 in games.
Short match, quick decision
The match did not reach the usual length of a full contest: Kovackova secured a dominant first set and built momentum that carried into the second, while Gjorcheska was unable to continue after the third game of the second set.
Gjorcheska had advanced to the second round but will not be able to add more matches to her Leipzig campaign after this retirement.
According to the tournament entry lists, Gjorcheska is scheduled to play next week at the W75 event in Kursumlijska Banja.
