Two foreign drivers arrested at Tabanovce for driving at more than double the speed limit
At Tabanovce police detained drivers from Serbia and the Netherlands after automated detection showed speeds of 168 km/h and 177 km/h on the A‑1 motorway where the limit is 80 km/h.

Two foreign motorists were detained at the Tabanovce border crossing in two separate incidents after automated monitoring showed they were driving at more than double the legal limit on the A‑1 motorway.
In the first case, recorded on 26 August 2026 at 22:15, police stopped a Mercedes‑Benz with Serbian licence plates. The vehicle was driven by I.M., a 51‑year‑old woman from Serbia; the Bezbeden grad system registered her speed at 168 kilometres per hour on the A‑1 motorway between Demir Kapija and Gevgelija, where the maximum permitted speed is 80 km/h.
In the second case, checked on 27 August 2026 at 05:00, officers inspected an Audi with Dutch licence plates driven by A.A., a 32‑year‑old man from the Netherlands. The system showed he had been travelling at 177 kilometres per hour near Demir Kapija on the same A‑1 section, where the speed limit is 80 km/h.
Detention and legal steps
Both I.M. and A.A. were detained by police. They are accused of the criminal offence "reckless driving" under Article 297‑a of the Criminal Code, and appropriate criminal charges will be filed against them.
Authorities said the detections were made through automated monitoring, and the cases were handled at the Tabanovce border crossing. No further details about possible court dates or additional measures were released at the time of the report.
