London police seize 90 luxury cars, including a Ferrari valued at €4.3 million
The operation in Kensington, Chelsea and Hyde Park resulted in the seizure of 90 cars worth more than €9 million, including a Ferrari Monza SP2 valued at €4.3 million.
Police in London seized 90 luxury vehicles during an operation targeting dangerous driving across the boroughs of Kensington, Chelsea and Hyde Park, authorities said. Among the cars was a Ferrari Monza SP2 that has been valued at €4.3 million; the total value of all seized vehicles exceeds €9 million.
The Ferrari Monza SP2 is an extremely rare model produced in only 499 units. Police say the car had been in the United Kingdom for just one day before officers stopped it; the driver had been behind the wheel for less than thirty minutes, held only a provisional driving licence and was uninsured. One example of this model sold at auction earlier this year for €4.3 million (£3.7 million).
Officers confiscated 15 vehicles at the scene using powers that allow seizure without warning if a vehicle is being used in a way that threatens public order. The wider operation covered multiple locations in west London and was described by the force as a response to public complaints about dangerous driving.
Chief Inspector Jeff Tatman, who led the operation, explained the reasoning behind the action: "We regularly receive complaints from members of the public about dangerous driving and vehicle modifications that disrupt neighbourhood life," he said.
Police said the seizures were intended to increase road safety and to deter motorists who drive or modify cars in ways that cause nuisance to residents. Officers exercised discretionary powers to remove vehicles they judged to be being used irresponsibly.
The force did not publish further details about prosecutions or follow-up measures, but said the operation formed part of efforts to address residents' concerns about anti-social and dangerous behaviour on local roads.
