Champions League: Fenerbahçe draw late 2-2 with Slavia; Dortmund win in Baku

Fenerbahçe surrendered a late win at home while Borussia Dortmund took three points in Baku on Tuesday in the third round of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

The Istanbul side raced into a 2-0 lead inside the first 11 minutes, but conceded twice — including a 92nd-minute equaliser — as Slavia Prague left with a valuable 2:2 draw.

Oguz Aydin opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a brilliant solo run and finish, and Mason Greenwood extended the lead to 2:0 in the 11th minute after a slick combination with Nelson Semedo. Slavia responded quickly: Lukas Provod punished a big mistake by Mateo Guendouzi in his own half and cut the deficit to 2:1 in the 15th minute.

Late drama in Istanbul

Despite pressure from Fenerbahçe for the remainder of the match, Slavia Prague did not give up. In the 92nd minute Kaczor found the net to make it 2:2, snatching a crucial point on the road.

In the other Group stage fixture, Borussia Dortmund beat Sabah 2:1 in Baku. Dortmund took the lead in the 10th minute when Seru Girasi reacted quickest to a rebound off goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov and put the visitors ahead.

Sabah levelled before half-time: from a free kick by Timutiyush Puhach, Aden Mekarti rose highest and headed past Gregor Kobel to make it 1:1 in the 39th minute. The winner arrived early in the second half, when Girasi scored his second of the night in the 53rd minute to secure a 1:2 victory for Borussia.

Both results leave the groups open as teams head into the next round of group fixtures.
