Champions League: Liverpool vs Atlético at Anfield headlines matchday

The second day of the Champions League group stage opens with several high-profile fixtures, headlined by Liverpool hosting Atlético Madrid at Anfield on the evening of September 9, 2026.

Liverpool arrive at their first home European match of the season with strong ambitions, while Diego Simeone’s Atlético will attempt to spring an upset at one of Europe’s most difficult venues; kickoff is scheduled for 21:00.

Another marquee game takes place at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona, where Napoli — coached by Massimiliano Allegri — face reigning English champions Arsenal in what promises to be a demanding test for the Italian side.

In Paris, PSG host Slovan Bratislava as the French champions seek a first positive result at home after a slow start to their domestic campaign. Barcelona are also in action early, meeting Feyenoord in the 18:45 kick-off slot, the same time when Stuttgart and Viking clash in Germany.

In Lisbon, Sporting take on Galatasaray. Sporting reached the Champions League quarter-finals last season, while Galatasaray boosted their squad during the summer. Galatasaray will be without the injured Victor Osimhen, but have added Rafael Leão and Leroy Sané to their ranks.
