Luis de la Fuente to lead Spain until 2032, RFEF confirms
RFEF approved a four-year extension on 21 September 2026 after Spain’s recent trophy run.
Luis de la Fuente will remain Spain's head coach through 2032, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on 21 September 2026 after a unanimous decision by its leadership.
Four-year extension follows a trophy-laden spell
The federation extended a contract that had been due to expire in 2028 by an additional four years, keeping de la Fuente in charge for the next major international cycle. The move secures his position through the 2030 World Cup and the subsequent European Championship cycle.
De la Fuente has delivered exceptional results in less than four years at the helm: Spain won the UEFA Nations League, the European Championship and then the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making him the most decorated coach in the history of the Spanish national team.
RFEF president Rafael Luzan underlined the federation's confidence in the coach and commented on the financial side of the new deal. "The coach is not among the ten highest-paid specialists in the world, and the new contract will significantly improve his financial situation, but it has not been officially disclosed how much he will earn annually," Luzan said.
The federation said the decision was taken to reinforce a project that has produced historic results, and to provide continuity ahead of the next long international cycle. Financial terms were not published.
