Luka Modrić confirms he will continue with Croatia and join Nations League squad

Luka Modrić has confirmed he will remain available for Croatia's national team and will be part of the squad for upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Czechia, Spain and England.

Reunion with Slaven Bilić after 14 years

The 40-year-old captain — who has amassed 202 caps for Croatia and is the appearance record-holder for his country — told head coach Slaven Bilić and Croatian Football Federation president Marijan Kustić that he is ready to play in the Nations League fixtures.

Modrić’s decision was welcomed warmly by Bilić. "Of course, Luka's decision makes me extremely happy. We are all aware of what he brings to Croatia, both on and off the field. I look forward to working together again after 14 years, and the two of us share a strong ambition to keep Croatia at the top of the world, shoulder to shoulder with the best national teams in the world," the Croatian coach said.

The call-up will mark a fresh chapter in the partnership between Modrić and Bilić; during Bilić’s first spell in charge he handed Modrić one of the central roles in the national side, and now they will reunite under different circumstances with the veteran midfielder still leading the team.

With his vast international experience and leadership, Modrić remains a central figure for Croatia as the team prepares for matches against top European opponents in the Nations League.
