Petar Madjar: I won't support fast‑tracked EU enlargement

Hungarian Prime Minister Petar Madjar said he will not support a fast‑tracked EU enlargement for any country, a stance he posted on his Facebook page after meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa.

Madjar wrote that his meeting also covered the next seven‑year EU budget and made a conditional link between that file and Hungary's interests. He posted: "Ја направив средбата светла за новиот седумгодишен буџет на Унијата може да се прифати само ако компромисот е во интерес на унгарскиот народ и бизнисите. Повторив, дека Унгарија во секој случај не го поддржува забрзан пристапниот за било која земја во процесот за проширување ."

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, speaking to reporters, said he does not believe Madjar's remarks were directed at North Macedonia, noting that Hungary has been a long‑standing friend and supporter of the country's EU integration efforts.

Opposition leader Venko Filipche accused Mickoski and the government of being the main brakes on the country's EU path, saying that strategic partners are beginning to take notice.

The country now faces a new deadline: by December it must deliver the reform laws requested by EU partners. That process is unfolding while the Albanian opposition bloc has already begun blocking the parliamentary chamber and says it will continue, particularly over laws it considers inconsistent with the Ohrid Framework Agreement.

Assembly Speaker Gashi said laws will be scheduled for sittings according to need, urgency and political will. He also said he will ask the Rules and Mandate Committee to determine whether the opposition is abusing parliamentary procedure to stall sessions.
