Macedonian woman detained in Montenegro after allegedly running over dog

A woman with Macedonian citizenship was detained in Montenegro after, according to the police, she intentionally ran over a dog and then attempted to leave the country; the court ordered 30 days of detention. The incident occurred on July 24, and the arrest took place at the Sukobin-Murićani border crossing.

The police say the act was intentional, while Stojanovska and her daughter give a different account

The Montenegrin police reported that on July 24 a dog of the Šarplaninac breed was deliberately run over with a Mercedes vehicle. Afterwards, the vehicle attempted to leave the country, but at the Sukobin-Murićani border crossing the police stopped it and arrested the driver.

In their defensive statement, the woman identified in reports as Stojanovska and her daughter claim that the Šarplaninac had previously killed their dog and attacked them, which is why they ran the dog over with the vehicle. They presented that version to the authorities conducting the investigation.

The Criminal Court ordered 30 days of detention for the detainee. Montenegrin authorities did not release additional details about possible charges or the next legal steps, beyond the place of arrest and the detention order.
