Macedonian national arrested in Croatia over fire near Drniš
Croatian police say the blaze began after paper cement bags were burned following construction work and was put out with ground crews and an Air Tractor at 19:36.
A criminal complaint has been filed by the Croatian police against a 54-year-old citizen of North Macedonia, who holds a regulated residence in Croatia, on suspicion of starting a fire in the settlement of Sedramić near Drniš after burning paper cement bags following construction work.
According to the Šibenik-Knin Police Administration, their investigation found that on Thursday afternoon, after carrying out construction work in the yard of a house, the man set fire to several paper bags that had contained cement.
Fire spread and damage
The blaze then spread uncontrollably toward the village of Čavale, where dry grass and low vegetation were ignited across an area of about 100 by 100 metres.
Further expansion of the fire was stopped by firefighters, who completely extinguished the flames at 19:36.
Nine firefighters with three fire engines fought the fire on the ground, and aerial support was provided by a firefighting aircraft of the Air Tractor type.
The police suspect the 54-year-old of committing the criminal offence of causing danger to life and property by a generally dangerous act or means.
