Makpetrol wins six medals at "Cup of Champions" in Podgorica
Senior team took three golds and three silvers at a 700-competitor regional tournament used as a control before the World Karate League.
Karate Club Makpetrol – Skopje returned from Podgorica with six medals from the international "Cup of Champions" tournament, reinforcing the senior team's upward form ahead of the World Karate League in Salzburg.
The event in Podgorica, Montenegro gathered about 700 competitors from six countries. Makpetrol's senior roster claimed three golds and three silvers across the kumite weight classes.
Medal winners
Gold: Jovana Micovska – -61 kg; Vukashin Jovanovic – -67 kg; Stefan Stojanovic – +84 kg.
Silver: Danili Bozhovic – -84 kg; Viktorija Jovanovska – -68 kg; Gresa Mustafiu – +68 kg, Arena, Struga.
Coach Petar Zaborski described the Podgorica competition as an important test after the recent European University Championship in Tirana.
"I am satisfied with what was achieved. We won six medals — three gold and three silver — at a very strong regional karate tournament. For us this was the first major control after the European University Championship in Tirana and an opportunity to see where the seniors stand in terms of form. There is still room for improvement, but overall I am satisfied with the performance and what our karatekas showed," Zaborski said.
With that benchmark complete, the senior team will focus on final preparations and timing of peak form for the World Karate League event scheduled to take place in Salzburg, Austria.
