Manchester United contacts Edmond Tapsoba

British outlets reported on 18.08.2026 at 22:10 that Manchester United's management have opened contacts with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba as they look for a new option in central defence.

United are said to have approached Tapsoba’s camp to explore the possibility of signing him as the club’s next defensive reinforcement. The discussions are described as preliminary and focused on assessing the player’s availability.

Player profile and form

Edmond Tapsoba is a centre-back and an international for Burkina Faso who arrived at Leverkusen after spells in Portugal. After an impressive season with Bayer, his performances have drawn interest from several clubs across Europe.

The 27-year-old is widely regarded to be in the prime of his career and fits the age profile Manchester United typically seek for defensive additions.

No formal offer has been announced publicly and neither club has confirmed a transfer. Any move would depend on further talks, agreement on terms with Leverkusen and the player, and the clubs' plans for the remainder of the transfer window.
