Manchester United suffer worst start to season in 40 years

Manchester United are enduring one of their toughest stretches in recent memory after collecting only six points from the first six Premier League rounds — their worst start at this stage of a campaign since 1986/87, when the club had four points from the opening six matches.

The most recent setback came at Old Trafford, where United were held to a 1:1 draw by Tottenham. The hosts fell behind in the 73rd minute to a goal by the Cameroonian Mbeumo.

Late drama and a red card

Although United went on to have a numerical advantage following the straight red card shown to Bentancur in the 78th minute, only moments after he had been introduced, they were unable to preserve their lead. In the second minute of stoppage time (90+2) Solanke levelled for the visitors — his third goal for the London side this season and his first on the road.

The performance at Old Trafford drew audible discontent from the home supporters, who greeted the final whistle with whistles and boos directed at their team.

The draw leaves Manchester United with six points after six games and increases pressure on the squad and coaching staff as the Premier League season progresses.
