Manchester City faces major consequences after an independent commission found the club guilty on 114 out of 115 charges following a multi-year probe into alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules. Possible punishments range widely
Authorities are considering a spectrum of sanctions: a large fine, points deductions, suspension, and in the most extreme scenario, expulsion from the Premier League. If the harshest outcome occurs, City could be placed in the Championship, a move that would have far-reaching sporting and financial consequences for the current squad.
“I spoke to a former senior Premier League executive. His idea was essentially that over the next three to five seasons they would be docked 20 to 25 points per season, which, in practice, would make it harder for them to qualify for the Champions League during that period, leaving them, at best, a kind of 'island' in the middle of the table over the next three to five years,” explained Adam Crafton on a podcast.
The club retains the right to appeal the commission's findings, which could prolong the process. Manchester City has maintained that the procedure is not finished and that it will continue to defend its position.
