Manchester City are preparing to bring in teenage midfielder Ajub Boudaddi from Lille as a long-term replacement for Rodri, sources close to the negotiations say. The 18-year-old Moroccan international has emerged this summer as one of Europe’s most sought-after youngsters.
Deal edging towards completion
Boudaddi, who is currently valued at 100 million euros, switched his international allegiance this summer — moving from France’s youth set-up to represent Morocco at senior level. City are reported to be willing to meet Lille’s asking price in order to secure the signing.
The Guardian devoted a full feature to the Lille academy graduate today, highlighting his rapid rise and the fact that talks between Lille and Manchester City are in their final stages. If completed, the club expect him to develop into their next major player in midfield.
At just 18 years old, Boudaddi has already attracted interest from several top clubs, but Manchester City appear to have accelerated their efforts to find a successor for the experienced Rodri in the first team.
If the transfer goes through, City would be investing heavily in a young talent they consider capable of filling the looming gap at the heart of their midfield.
