Norway captain Martin Odegaard openly criticized the conduct of Portugal forward Bernardo Silva after his team’s defeat in the Nations League at Ullevi stadium.
The controversy unfolded at the end of the match when Silva made a sharp challenge on Odegaard moments after the Arsenal midfielder had already passed the ball. Video of the incident has been widely shared on social media.
Odegaard called the action unacceptable
Odegaard did not hold back in his reaction on the pitch: “A dirty move on his part. That does not belong on a football pitch. It's shameful for people to behave like that. It is a complete blackout on his part. He hit me after I had played the ball. I don't understand what he tried to do,” he said.
The Norway captain also said Silva did not apologize after the game. “You have to ask him why he did it. I really don't know. These things have no place in football, but it's part of life,” Odegaard added.
The episode has sparked debate about on-pitch discipline in international fixtures and will likely draw the attention of match officials and football authorities reviewing the Nations League encounter at Ullevi.
