Bosnian couple accused of leaving child locked in parked car outside Poreč shopping centre
Child found alone, nearly an hour, in a locked car outside a Poreč shopping centre; emergency crews and police intervened.
A married couple from Bosnia and Herzegovina are under investigation after their minor child was left alone inside a locked, parked car in front of a shopping centre in Poreč, Croatia, police said.
The Istria Police Directorate reported that a 39-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, left the child in the vehicle with the windows closed. Other visitors to the shopping centre noticed the child nearly an hour later, found the child without clothing and sweating, and summoned medical and firefighting teams.
Emergency services alerted
Emergency medical personnel and the fire brigade arrived at the scene and informed police. Officers from the Istria Police Directorate reached the site shortly afterwards; the parents appeared and unlocked the car when the police arrived.
The child was examined by medical staff and was not injured, the police said. Authorities have opened an investigation into suspected endangerment of the child’s rights and welfare.
Local police did not disclose further details about the couple or the child’s condition beyond confirming their ages and citizenship. Investigators will determine whether to press charges after the inquiry is concluded.
