Mickoski: Electricity price will not be cut — what households pay from January 1 depends on ESM

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the electricity price will not be reduced and that he is working to keep the level unchanged. He described the current 65 euros as low, but insisted his aim is for the price to remain the same going forward.

Other energy companies have already submitted their calculations to the regulator, which must determine the charges for transmission and distribution. Those inputs will shape the components that appear on consumer bills.

Decisions for January 1 hinge on the state producer

Mickoski stressed that what households will actually pay from January 1 depends on ESM. He repeated that the final amounts will be influenced by the regulator’s review of the submitted data and by ESM’s own pricing decisions.

The prime minister has previously said a new methodology is being prepared with the stated goal of securing a lower electricity price for citizens — "five to ten percent" during the next year.

Until the regulator completes its assessment and ESM clarifies its position, the exact level of future invoices remains uncertain, leaving consumers and suppliers awaiting the formal rulings that will define charges for transmission, distribution and supply.
