Hristijan Mickoski in Prilep: "We live better than three years ago; in three years we'll live better than today"
At the opening of the VIK plant in Prilep, Mickoski defended the government’s record and promised further improvement in citizens’ living standards.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said on Thursday that citizens are "living much better" than three years ago and pledged that "in three years from today we will live much better than today," responding to opposition complaints that GDP growth is insufficient.
Mickoski was speaking at the opening of a new VIK plant in the TIR zone in Prilep. He rejected the opposition’s criticism as unfounded and at times intentionally misleading, saying their claims could not be taken at face value.
Government message and context
Addressing recent economic debate, Mickoski argued the current government inherited a difficult situation some two years earlier: "given what the state’s condition was 25-6 months ago, what we inherited with destroyed institutions, a plundered economy, a country kneeling, disappointed and demotivated citizens," he said, using that picture to contrast with the present.
He said his administration’s goal is to deliver visible projects and investments that raise living standards, and that the government draws motivation from popular support. “The inspiration we draw completely comes from the support we receive from the citizens and I am extremely grateful for that,” he added, while acknowledging that the situation is not perfect and mistakes happen.
Mickoski closed his remarks by reiterating the pledge that the government intends to keep working toward improving citizens’ standard of living over the next three years.
