Mickoski: North Macedonia posts 4.3% GDP growth in Q2, H1 3.7%
Mickoski says the 4.3% Q2 rise, combined with Q1 growth, places the country among Europe’s top four performers and he compared it with Slovenia, Malta and Denmark.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said North Macedonia recorded stronger-than-expected economic activity in the second quarter, with gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 4.3 percent. He told journalists the 4.3 percent rise in Q2, together with 3.1 percent growth in the first quarter, yields a 3.7 percent increase for the first half of the year.
Numbers and regional comparison
Speaking at an event in the Municipality of Karpoš and answering reporters' questions, Mickoski argued that this performance places the country among Europe’s top growth performers for the period.
He framed the result as “one of the strongest outcomes in Europe” and reiterated his conviction about North Macedonia’s relative position in regional rankings.
“Now I again call on those on social media to start mocking me, but I will stand by my position that this is one of the four largest GDP growths both in the first half of the year and in the second quarter, provided that for the same quarter in 2025 we have 3.5 percent growth. Let's say, Slovenia has 4.8 in the second quarter in 2026, but 0.7 in the second quarter in 2025. And ahead of us are Malta and Denmark,” Mickoski said.
The prime minister used comparisons with Slovenia, Malta and Denmark to illustrate where he believes North Macedonia ranks among European economies for the period referenced.
The remarks came during a public appearance in Karpoš where Mickoski responded to questions from the press about recent macroeconomic indicators.
