Mickoski attended the Prespa folklore festival in Pustec and pledged continued ties with Macedonians in Albania.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski visited the Macedonian community in Albania on August 20, 2026, attending a folklore festival in Pustec that celebrates the area's preserved traditions.
On Facebook he wrote: "I am honored to be among the Macedonians of Mala Prespa today, which is proof that borders can divide territories, but cannot erase the language, culture and sense of belonging."
Patron of the festival
Mickoski serves as patron of the Macedonian folklore festival "Prespa", held on August 20 on Goce Delchev square in Pustec. The event was organised by the Macedonian Society "Prespa", the Association VMRO-DPMNE Albania and the Municipality of Pustec.
During his visit Mickoski underlined the political and cultural ties between North Macedonia and the Macedonian communities across the border, saying the connection will endure.
He also addressed the assembled residents directly, assuring them that North Macedonia will stand by the Macedonians in Albania.
The visit and festival highlight ongoing efforts to keep language and cultural traditions alive in border regions where communities maintain cross-border bonds.
