Mika Murinen fined in Finland for driving without a licence and speeding
Murinen was recorded at 76 km/h in a 40 km/h zone on 11 May in Helsinki and received a total fine of €872.
Finnish guard Mika Murinen has been fined after a traffic incident in Helsinki in which he drove without a valid licence and exceeded the speed limit in a 40 km/h zone.
According to a criminal order issued on 28 May, the offence took place on the afternoon of 11 May on Mekkelankatu in Helsinki; Murinen was driving despite not holding a current Finnish driving licence.
Speed measurement and sanction
The authorities recorded his speed at 76 kilometres per hour on a stretch limited to 40 km/h; the measured result was reduced by 3 km/h to account for the statutory tolerance. For the two traffic offences he was handed a total fine of €872. No additional driving ban was imposed, since he did not possess a valid licence in Finland.
Registration details in the case show the vehicle driven was a Land Rover Range Rover registered to a financial company.
Murinen is regarded as one of the most promising young players in Finnish basketball. He played for Partizan last season but left the Belgrade club in mid-February; he is set to continue his career in the United States next season with the University of Arkansas.
