Mikel Arteta extends contract with Arsenal, ending speculation
Agreement lifts Arteta's pay above €12m with up to €6m in bonuses and secures at least a decade in charge.
On 22 September 2026 (16:25) Mikel Arteta and Arsenal ended months of speculation by agreeing a new contract that keeps the Spanish manager at the club.
The new deal includes a significant pay rise compared with his previous €12 million per year base salary and adds performance-related bonuses of up to €6 million.
Long-term commitment, exact length not yet public
Club officials and Arteta described the negotiations as successful and mutually satisfactory. While the precise length of the contract has not been officially disclosed, the club confirmed Arteta will remain in charge for at least a decade.
Arteta arrived in London in December 2019 and has gradually reshaped the squad into one of the primary contenders for major trophies in English and European football.
Addressing supporters in recent remarks, Arteta sought to calm any lingering doubts about his future: "They have no reason to worry because I want to stay here. I am extremely happy and very grateful for the opportunity to work with the people I work with," he said.
The announcement closes a prolonged period of media speculation and gives Arsenal long-term stability at the managerial position as the team prepares for the season ahead.
