Federation of BiH Interior Minister Ramo Isak urges regional front against Serbia
Isak warns that public veneration of Ratko Mladić in Serbia and Republika Srpska is a direct threat and urges the EU to expand sanctions criteria.
Ramo Isak, the Interior Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said on September 7, 2026 that the public glorification of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić in Serbia and in the Republika Srpska entity represents a direct security threat to Bosnia and the wider Balkans. Isak urged Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Croatia and Albania to form a common front against those developments.
Isak calls for regional coordination and tougher EU measures
Speaking about foreign-policy priorities, Isak said: "нулта приоритет на надворешната политика и безбедноста е посилната врска на Босна и Херцеговина со Косово, Албанија, Црна Гора, Хрватска и сите други држави од регионот кои имаат интерес Балканот никогаш повеќе да не стане простор каде што територијалните претензии, етничкиот национализам и рехабилитацијата на воените политики се претвораат во насилство".
He also warned of an ideological threat inside Serbia and parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina: "создавање фронт против фанатичната четничка идеологија во Србија," he said, arguing that the public and political expressions of that ideology endanger regional stability.
Isak added that "нејзините политички манифестации претставуваат директна закана за уставниот и правниот поредок, безбедноста, демократијата и територијалниот интегритет на Босна и Херцеговина, Црна Гора, Косово, Хрватска и Албанија."
He warned that in both Serbia and Republika Srpska "величењето на воениот злосторник Ратко Младиќ достигна такво ниво на политичка, социјална и институционална легитимност што повеќе не може да се опише како маргинален национализам."
Isak noted the European Union's stance and demanded concrete follow-up: " ЕУ јасно соопшти дека величењето на воените злосторници, негирањето на геноцидот и историскиот ревизионизам немаат место ниту во Европската Унија ниту во земјите-кандидатки. Таа порака мора да има конкретни последици". He called on the Council of the EU to amend the current regime of restrictive measures so that public glorification of persons legally convicted of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, as well as denial of legally established genocide and other international crimes and revisionist attempts to justify them, become explicit grounds for sanctions.
