Ministry and Crisis Management Centre sign pilot for early landfill‑fire detection
A one‑year pilot using cameras, intelligent video analytics and AI will be monitored 24 hours by the Centre for Crisis Management.
Published: 27 September 2026 — The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, Muamet Hodzha, together with Muhamed Ali, director of the Centre for Crisis Management, and Vladimir Burevski on behalf of Modirum Platforms from Skopje signed a memorandum to launch a pilot system for early detection of fires at landfills.
Pilot with cameras, AI and 24‑hour monitoring
The memorandum establishes a framework to deploy a pilot video‑monitoring system at landfills that combines modern cameras, intelligent video analytics and artificial intelligence to detect smoke, fire and other risks in a timely manner.
Under the agreement, the Centre for Crisis Management will provide 24‑hour monitoring and notify the competent institutions when risks are identified, enabling faster response and improved coordination among agencies.
Modirum Platforms will supply the equipment for temporary use for a one‑year period as part of its support for public‑interest initiatives in environmental protection, risk prevention and public safety enhancement.
The Ministry said the pilot aims to strengthen use of digital technologies in environmental protection, focusing on prevention, early warning and more effective operational reaction. Results from the pilot phase will serve as the basis for considering expansion of the system at the national level.
