Mysterious bag in Oallen turned out to contain a realistic doll, not human remains

Police in Oallen, a small town about 200 kilometres southwest of Sydney, launched an inquiry into a possible homicide after a found bag appeared to contain human remains, but forensic testing later showed the "victim" was an extremely realistic doll.
Officers attended the scene and treated the area as a potential crime scene; the contents of the bag were not opened or examined in detail at the location.
Subsequent forensic analysis determined there was no human body inside the bag.
The object proved to be a highly lifelike doll, dressed in clothing, with hair and a nose piercing. It also bore markings that resembled bruises and scratches.
Investigation halted after forensic confirmation
"The item was very realistic, in the sense that it looked like human remains," said police sergeant Linda Bredberi, who explained that officers on scene had been reluctant to further disturb what they believed at the time might be human remains. Poor weather conditions also influenced their handling of the scene.
After forensic specialists confirmed the finding, the inquiry into a possible murder was discontinued.
