Ministry withdraws 33 primary-school textbooks, replacements due in 2027/2028

The Ministry of Education and Science has decided to withdraw 33 primary-school textbooks from use and replace them with new editions that will enter classrooms in the 2027/2028 school year.

The textbooks affected are those used in grades I, II, IV and V. According to the ministry's Pedagogical Service, these titles have now completed five years in circulation and require both quality improvements and content updating.

The Pedagogical Service has opened a public competition for replacement textbooks for the named grades; successful titles will be distributed and used from the start of the 2027/2028 academic year.

Earlier phases and administrative withdrawals

In a previous phase tied to the introduction of new curricula, the ministry provided new textbooks for seventh and eighth grades in primary school and for first- and second-year students in general secondary education. To complete the administrative procedures for those renewals, decisions were taken to withdraw a total of 108 previously used textbooks: 17 in seventh grade, 18 in eighth grade, 35 in first year of secondary and 38 in second year.

Competitions for ninth-grade textbooks in primary education and for third-year textbooks in secondary general education are currently active. The ministry says those books will also be available at the beginning of the 2027/2028 school year. Next year the ministry plans to launch procedures to renew textbooks for third and sixth grades in primary school and for fourth-year gymnasium, aiming to complete the reform of teaching materials within a single four-year mandate.
