Monaco officially faces collapse
Club denied a licence to play in France's top division after years of financing that have now stopped.

AS Monaco's basketball section has been officially denied a licence to compete in the upcoming French first-division season, a decision that leaves the club on the brink of collapse.
From wealth to uncertainty
Once counted among Europe's richest basketball outfits, Monaco has suffered a rapid reversal after years of heavy investment by Russian tycoon Aleksey Fedorishev. Those funds have largely dried up, and the club's financial base has eroded.
The sporting consequences were already visible last season when the team finished the campaign with only eight senior players. With the loss of the competition licence, Monaco now faces two stark possibilities: the club could cease to operate professionally, or it could continue only at an amateur level far from the glamour of recent years.
The decision will force an urgent reassessment of contracts, staff and the club's legal and sporting future. Supporters and local partners are left awaiting details on appeals or rescue plans, while players and coaches confront an uncertain off-season.
