Police inspections of 66 bars and casinos find minors, undeclared workers

The Ministry of Internal Affairs carried out coordinated inspections of 66 hospitality establishments and casinos on 17 and 18 October 2026, discovering a series of violations including underage presence after midnight and undeclared workers, police said.

During the checks authorities found four minors inside a hospitality venue after midnight and identified alcohol being served to minors in two separate locations. Inspectors also discovered an unlicensed security guard who lacked proper identification, and one venue where public order was disturbed. Three fines were issued for breaches of the anti-smoking law.

Crackdown also uncovered illegal gambling in Kičevo

In Kičevo police searched a location where illegal games of chance were taking place, detained two people and seized items connected to the operation. Officials said that "after full documentation a corresponding report will follow".

The inspections were performed jointly by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and several oversight bodies: the State Market Inspectorate, the Public Revenue Office, the State Labour Inspectorate, the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, and the Food and Veterinary Agency. Inspectors reported irregularities including undeclared workers, operation without required permits, failure to issue fiscal receipts, unregistered activities and foreign-currency trade, plus shortcomings in hygiene and fire-safety measures. Appropriate measures and sanctions were taken for the violations found.

Police officers carried out identity checks on 38 people, conducted searches of 61 individuals and one passenger vehicle, and confirmed the identity of 31 people. "The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues with intensified and coordinated inspections in hospitality venues and casinos, in cooperation with the competent institutions, with the aim of detecting and sanctioning illegal activities, strict compliance with the laws and greater safety for citizens," the ministry said, adding that the coordinated checks will continue.
