MIA fines 166 pedestrians in one-day nationwide traffic sweep
137 pedestrians were caught crossing outside marked crosswalks during checks held from 9:00 to 15:00; police recorded 167 other traffic offences.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said its traffic unit issued fines to 166 pedestrians during a one-day nationwide enforcement operation carried out yesterday.
The intensified checks ran between 9:00 and 15:00. Of the 166 pedestrian violations, 137 involved crossing the road outside a marked pedestrian crossing. Police also recorded and sanctioned 167 other traffic offences during the same action.
Continued controls and a public appeal
The MIA announced that similar traffic controls will continue in the coming days and urged everyone using the roads to follow the rules.
"We appeal to citizens to respect traffic rules and regulations. Pedestrians should cross the carriageway at marked pedestrian crossings because failure to comply with the rules will be sanctioned. We must all contribute together to safer roads," the Ministry said.
Authorities stressed that the operation aimed to reduce risky behaviour by pedestrians and to improve overall road safety, and warned that enforcement measures will be maintained as part of ongoing traffic safety work.
