Ministry of Interior steps up checks on drivers using phones until 11 October
The operation, part of ROADPOL's 'Focus on the Road', runs from 5 to 11 October 2026 across 34 European countries to curb distracted driving.

The Ministry of Interior has launched intensified traffic checks targeting improper use of mobile phones, headphones and other electronic devices while driving. The operation runs from 5 October 2026 through 11 October 2026, the ministry said.
ROADPOL action across Europe
The campaign is part of ROADPOL's international "Focus on the Road" effort and is being carried out simultaneously in 34 European countries. The stated aim is to reduce risks caused by distracted driving and to improve road safety for all users.
"Writing messages, phone conversations, checking notifications or using social networks while driving divert attention from the road. Just a few seconds of inattention are enough for a driver to fail to notice a danger in time and react," the Ministry of Interior said, describing the hazards that the checks are meant to prevent.
Police checkpoints and patrols nationwide will pay special attention to drivers using handheld devices and wearing headphones while operating a vehicle. Officers will enforce traffic rules and issue sanctions to those who break them.
"Do not let a single glance at the screen be the cause of a traffic tragedy. Drive carefully — keep your eyes on the road. Leave the phone for later," the ministry appealed, urging all road users to stay focused.
Authorities reminded drivers that distractions increase the likelihood of crashes and encouraged pedestrians and cyclists to remain vigilant around vehicles during the enforcement period.
