MZT Skopje Aerodrom parts ways with coach Vasko Atanasov
Club announced the split on October 30, 2026 after the defeat at Strumica; decision follows a run of poor results, mainly on the international stage.
MZT Skopje Aerodrom announced on October 30, 2026 that it has parted ways with head coach Vasko Atanasov.
The club's management made the decision following the team’s defeat at Strumica on the night of October 29, a setback that club officials described as the latest in a string of poor results over recent weeks. Many of those negative outcomes occurred on the international stage, but the loss in the domestic championship was the immediate trigger for change.
Throughout the recent run of matches MZT struggled to find consistent form, and the leadership concluded that a change on the sideline was necessary to try to reverse the trend.
Coach's record and next steps
Atanasov took charge of the team in 2023 and during his tenure became the youngest coach in the history of Macedonian basketball to win a championship title. The club did not announce a successor immediately after the split.
Supporters and observers will now watch how MZT Skopje Aerodrom reorganizes its coaching staff ahead of the next fixtures in the domestic league and its remaining international commitments.
