At least four dead after student accommodation collapses in New Delhi

At least four people were killed and dozens were injured when a student accommodation building collapsed in New Delhi, officials said.

Rescue teams have pulled six people from the rubble so far, while emergency crews continue searching the site for others.

Location and immediate impact

The building stood near the South Campus of the University of Delhi, an area of narrow streets lined with student hostels, postgraduate housing and restaurants. The collapse caused chaos in the surrounding neighbourhood as first responders and residents rushed to help.

Local residents described the structure as known as "Hostel Daze" and said it was almost 50 years old. According to witnesses, construction work was being carried out in the basement at the time the building fell.

Authorities have not yet released a definitive cause for the collapse. Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing and hospitals in the area are treating the injured.
