At least nine people were killed and 23 wounded after Russian strikes hit Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram that the city was struck this morning by ballistic missiles and warned residents to seek shelter. He wrote: "Kyiv has been attacked with ballistic missiles. Take shelter in bomb shelters."
Explosions heard across the city
Explosions echoed across multiple neighbourhoods as emergency crews responded to scenes of damage. Authorities said rescue teams and first responders were working to evacuate affected buildings and treat the injured.
The State Emergency Service gave the casualty toll and provided ongoing updates as local services continued search-and-rescue and medical efforts at several sites hit by the strikes.
Local officials urged residents to stay informed through official channels and to use public shelters until authorities confirm it is safe to return to homes and workplaces.
