Knife attack in central Toulouse leaves two police injured; suspect arrested
Jean‑Luc Moudenc said the suspect was held after officers subdued a man armed with two knives in the city centre.
Two French police officers were wounded with a knife late last night in central Toulouse, and the attacker was arrested, the city’s mayor Jean‑Luc Moudenc said.
The man repeatedly insulted and threatened officers, claiming he had information, and then produced two knives, according to the accounts of the incident.
Police containment and confrontation
Three officers equipped with batons and tear gas surrounded the suspect. A protective construction barrier helped prevent him from fleeing, allowing the officers to close in.
While trying to subdue the attacker, the officers defended themselves from knife strikes; two of the policemen were injured in the arm. It took several seconds for the officers to overpower and incapacitate the man.
Moudenc described the episode as "an incident with terrorist rhetoric." Reports say the assailant shouted "Allahu akbar" several times during the attack. The suspect was detained at the scene and further inquiries are under way.
