Bulgarian–French actress Natalia Doncheva has died at the age of 56, her longtime agent confirmed, saying the artist had been an enduring presence on the French stage and screen for decades. Reports state she died on August 1; no cause of death has been released.
Career that spanned theatre, television and film
Born in Sofia in 1969, Doncheva was the daughter of Bulgarian actor Plamen Donchev. She moved to France at 19 to continue her studies and soon established herself professionally within the country’s theatrical and television circles.
Across more than thirty years Doncheva appeared in over 50 film and television productions and in roughly twenty stage plays. Audiences particularly remember her work in the popular French series Julie Lescaut, Une femme d’honneur, Joséphine, ange gardien and Doc Martin, roles that showcased her range and stage charisma.
Confirming the news, her longtime agent described her as "an exceptionally talented actress with an elegant stage presence," adding that "her dedication, professionalism and love of the arts will remain permanently remembered."
