NBA delegation to meet EuroLeague in Como on 5 October over possible purchase
NBA officials and EuroLeague club delegates will meet at Lake Como to discuss a potential acquisition and the competition’s future.
Representatives of the NBA are scheduled to travel to Italy on 5 October for talks reportedly focused on a possible acquisition of the EuroLeague, the continent’s top club competition. Organisers say the meeting will take place at Lake Como and will bring together NBA officials and club delegates from the EuroLeague to discuss the future direction of the competition.
Details of any formal offer from the NBA have not been disclosed. Sources involved in preparations say club owners will be presented with two broad paths: enter into a deal with the NBA or continue developing the league independently.
The independent route, as framed by EuroLeague management, would involve a shift toward a franchise model and an expansion of the competition — a plan that EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno has already outlined to clubs.
Meeting also to touch Final Four hosting plans
The October talks are expected to cover organisation of future Final Four tournaments. Milan is aiming to host the event in 2030, while Valencia is under consideration for 2028. Abu Dhabi has already been linked to hosting editions in 2027 and 2029.
Club representatives will now have to weigh the commercial and sporting implications of either option: integration with the NBA’s global structure or the continuation of a European-led expansion and franchise strategy. The outcome of the Lake Como meeting could reshape club basketball across the continent.
