Neymar says he may retire at the end of the year

Neymar left the future of his playing career uncertain and raised the possibility of retiring at the end of the year.

Speaking on his YouTube channel during a charity auction for his institute, the 34-year-old forward said he will keep all options open once his current deal with Santos runs out in December.

“I don't know how long. I don't think I'll stop, I don't even know how long I'll be doing this,” Neymar told viewers, adding that he plans to honour his current contract before making any definitive decision.

Contract, club situation and national team exit

“I have a contract with Santos until December. I intend to fulfil the contract, to honour the Santos shirt in the best possible way, and then, when my contract ends, I'll think whether to stay, whether to leave, whether to stop playing or continue,” he said, a statement that left supporters uncertain about his next move.

The Brazil international, who recently confirmed his retirement from the national team following disappointment at the last World Cup — where he was described as one of the major surprises on Carlo Ancelotti's list — now concentrates on helping Santos avoid relegation as the club sits dangerously close to the drop zone.
